Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?
Shure Pets is the nation’s leader in the distribution of pet products through independent sales representatives known as Pet Consultants. Shure Pets certainly found me. A dear friend of mine signed me up to become a pet consultant as a birthday gift! Already working a full-time job, a part-time job, and going to school part-time, I was unsure of how I would find time to take on more. Thanks to my friend’s belief in me, I have had great fun and success with the Shure Pets business.
What was your first job, and what did you learn from the experience?
My first job was working at the California State Fair making and selling cookies as a senior in high school! What I learned from this experience is to never do something just because someone else is doing it.
How are you involved with both the community and your customer?
With Shure Pets I have become more involved with the local pet-lover community. It is very easy to strike up a conversation with any pet owner and ask about their pets – you will always receive a passionate response! I get to know my customers on a personal level and learn all about their family pets and any special needs their pets may have. My job is to suggest products that both the owners and pets will love. Shure Pets is a great social network for me as well. Throwing Shure Pets parties is a lot of fun and a much more personalized and unique way of shopping for items for your beloved furry friends!
Who is your role model in business or in life, and why?
My parents are my role models in life - my mother is the strongest woman I know, and my father is the most intelligent man I know. I know that the person I am today is a result of their love, support, discipline and guidance.
Where do you go when the going gets tough?
I don’t have to go too far. It is true what they say about having a pet – they help drop your blood pressure just by petting them, they make you laugh just by watching them, they sense your pain when you are down, and they love you no matter what. When the going gets tough for me, I grab my little buddy and take him for a walk to clear my head. A few slobbery kisses later, and I’m ready to put on a smile.
And finally, customer service is…?
Priceless. Customer service is essential to having a successful business. Direct sales isn’t always easy, but if you make it your priority to be personable, knowledgeable and friendly, this business will be good to you!
