On a random Thursday night, a friend and I wandered into Smashburger looking to satisfy our growling stomachs.
I had heard that the restaurant served veggie burgers, and as a vegetarian, I was delighted. However this was not the case, but I was still intrigued to see what meat alternatives they offered.
As we approached the counter to order, we were met with an abundance of choices including many different Smashsides, which each sounded as appetizing as the next. We decided to share two side orders, and then I ordered the Harvest Chicken Salad, minus the chicken of course, while my friend ordered the more traditional Smashburger.
Once we chose our table and sat, we took in the ambience. With its simple color scheme and hip music, SmashBurger has an urban, family-friendly feel. After waiting less than 10 minutes, our Smashsides and entrées were served. First, we dug into the amazing sweet potato fries and the veggie frites. The frites consisted of carrots, asparagus and green beans, fried in oil and finished with the perfect amount of pepper on top. Once we demolished our side dishes, we tried our main courses. My friend raved about her Smashburger, while I was equally smitten with my salad. It was definitely one of the best salads I have ever had, let alone from a joint best known for its burgers and sandwiches. The balsamic vinaigrette had a perfect tang, while the raisins, cranberries, and sunflower and pumpkin seeds made the salad filling and delicious.
While it is light on the vegetarian options, Smashburger is heavy on flavor. They definitely have one of the best salads in town, and while I can’t speak for the burger, it looked good enough to be more than a little tempting. Smashburger is perfect for anyone wanting a little feel of city life and a lot of flavor for the buck!
