Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?
My business found me. I started taking Pilates classes 14 years ago to help alleviate back pain. It eliminated my pain, and I loved the work so much that I had to share it. After teaching Pilates for almost 10 years, it was time for me to start my own studio…and here I am!
What was the first job you ever had, and what did you learn from the experience?
My first job was in a childcare center. I learned so much – most importantly that simple, logical solutions are usually best.
Why is your staff the best in the business?
I love movement and helping people feel better. I have studied with different Pilates teachers/masters, chiropractors, physical therapists and medical doctors to learn as much as I can about how the human body is supposed to function and how to help people work toward that goal through movement.
Who is your role model in business or in life, and why?
My mentor, Lolita San Miguel, who is a former dancer and one of two people who Joseph Pilates officially certified to teach his method. She is poised and strong at every turn, and she loves her work and her students with all her heart.
Where do you go when the going gets tough?
Outside with my dogs. Fresh air brings perspective, and dogs make me smile.
What’s your hidden talent?
Accounting – I loved accounting classes in college and I secretly like bookkeeping.
What’s your biggest job perk?
To have my students leave my studio feeling taller, stronger and better than when they walked in!
What’s your favorite place to eat out locally?
Jack’s Urban Eats.
If you could be any other profession what would it be?
I can’t imagine doing anything else – teaching Pilates is too fun.
And finally, customer service is…?
Caring about the customer and what they want. Providing not only what they ask for, but also what they don’t ask for that will get them to their ultimate goal.
