The Fifth Annual Folsom Cyclebration will roll through town again Friday through Sunday, June 8-10.

With 12 cycling events, there’s plenty of action for everyone, whether you’re a racer, a rider, a spectator…or a little of each. The Fam Jam elevates the fun to a whole new level Friday evening at the Folsom Bike Park, where BMX pros put their skills to the test in a stunning display of gravity-defying aerial tricks. Riders of all ages and abilities can ride over the same jumps that the pros use during an open-ride session at the event; entry is $5/person, but spectators can watch for free.

Saturday’s schedule is packed with events – the free Cyclebration Festival and Expo starts at 10 a.m. in Folsom City Lions Park and continues through 5 p.m. with music, activities, vendors, food and a beer garden. Many of the day’s races and rides start and finish at the festival, making it a great venue to hang out with friends and family and take in all the action. The Family Scavenger Hunt is a non-timed event for all ages; entry is $20/family. Participants ride the trails by Lake Natoma and through Historic Folsom, solving clues that will lead them to a special prize at the finish. The Gold Rush Century offers 32-, 65- and 100-mile options; a hosted lunch awaits all riders at the end. The Rodeo Short Race is for mountain bikers ages 15 through masters – there’s even a fun race for kids ages 10 and under. The Challenge Criterium through the Lake Forest Business Park is for road racers ages 10 through masters; a free kids’ race is also included. Mountain bikers who like a good challenge can try their skills at the Time Trial race. The route includes trails through some of the restricted Folsom Prison property.

The weekend wraps up with two race events on Sunday: the Willow Creek Circuit Race for road cyclists, and the Folsom Prison Cross Country Race for mountain bikers. These events are all about speed, and there are categories for ages 10 through masters in both. Each course is easily accessible by bike, and there are places along both that provide excellent views of the action.
