Oak Ridge High School
Tell us about yourself.I’m blessed with a supportive family and am a strong Christian with a passion for helping others. I value academic excellence and love to be outdoors or playing tennis. My philosophy is that everything always works out, and I always find a way to use puns way too often.
What accomplishment are you most proud of and why?
My leadership in organizing a benefit dinner for Sacramento WIND, a center for homeless teens. This was the first big event I organized and it was successful beyond my expectations. It serves as a great inspiration for the work I hope to do—engage youth to help youth, and to build relationships to make a change.
What are your school interests, involvements and hobbies?
I’ve been active in Hands4Hope throughout high school, serving various positions in the Oak Ridge High School Club, and was president of the Youth Board (comprised of six local high schools). I’ve also been involved in Interact, Link, National Honor Society, and last year was the Oak Ridge High School Girls State delegate at Claremont McKenna College. As well, I’ve been on the girl’s varsity tennis team all four years, enjoy being an academic tutor, spend my weekends hiking or general adventuring, am a leader at the Lakehills Church youth group, and am active in serving the community.
What’s one thing that not many people know about you?
I love to write and have published some of my work. My plans are to finish a novel in the future.
What are your plans after graduation?
Attend college out of the area; I’ve been accepted to several universities under political science. I also plan to study abroad and continue my volunteer work on a worldwide scale.
Who is your role model?
My parents—they’ve taught me about commitment, the value of hard work and faith, given me an appreciation of art (Mom) and, best of all, taught me how to drive a stick shift (Dad).
Describe your career aspirations.
I want to make a difference and leave an impact on the world. Through political science, I hope to develop a career that will benefit those around me. I also found a passion for helping at-risk youth, and a career in law would allow me to continue to strengthen the voice of those in need.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
I would backpack through Europe.
