Over 20 years ago, when her daughter was just two years old, Ryan moved to Folsom. She and her husband were drawn to the city’s small-town feel and envisioned it as the perfect place to plant roots. Ryan also saw it as the ideal opportunity to make a difference in her local community. Since becoming Folsom’s public information officer, Ryan has been instrumental in bringing about the city’s first-ever Community Service Day, to be held October 25. More than 1,000 volunteers are expected at the event, including numerous area service clubs and nonprofits. In addition to cleanup and maintenance projects around town, the campaign will include a citywide food drive for Twin Lakes Food Bank and the assembly of care packages for U.S. troops overseas. Ryan’s hope is that the Community Service Day will become an annual tradition in Folsom. “One of the things that makes our community so very special is the way we step up and get involved,” Ryan shares with a smile.
