Imagine. Explore. Discover.  In addition to its fascinating Gold Rush past, the Sacramento area is rich with an amazing array of state-of-the-art museums and historic sites that offer visitors the chance to explore California’s fine art, history, science and wildlife treasures all year long.

In November, many of the 30 members of Sacramento Association of Museums (SAM) are featuring a number of special events and activities honoring military veterans, a few of which include the following:

Free Admission & Special Activities Honoring Veterans at Maidu Museum -- 11/10, 12 thru 15
Veterans can enjoy free admission to the Maidu Museum & Historic Site in Roseville on 11/10 and 11/12 thru 11/15.  And, all Museum visitors can watch a special one-hour documentary titled Original Patriots: Northern California Indian Veterans of WWII at 2 p.m. each day that features three Northern California Native American veterans.  Then on 11/15, author and filmmaker Chag Lowry will introduce his film just before a special showing that starts at 7 p.m. during the free “Night Out at the Museum” event.  For more, visit roseville.ca.us/parks/parks_n_facilities/facilities/maidu_indian_museum

Free Excursion Train Rides & Admission for Veterans at the Railroad Museum -- 11/11
To honor their service and celebrate the patriotic holiday, the California State Railroad Museum is proud to offer veterans and active military personnel complimentary excursion train rides on the Sacramento Southern Railroad at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. plus complimentary Museum admission on Veteran’s Day!   Veterans and active military personnel must show their current military ID or proof of discharge.  For more, visit csrmf.org

Free Admission for Veterans & WWI Exhibit at the Heidrick Ag History Center -- 11/11
The Heidrick Ag History Center in Woodland plans to recognize Veterans Day by offering free admission for veterans and active military personnel who provide a valid ID.  And, in addition to offering the nation’s rarest tractor collection, visitors will see a “developing” exhibit that memorializes the events and honors those who served in WWI.  Guests are even invited to contribute to the special patriotic exhibit with non-returnable photos, documents and items to be displayed in a temporary WWI Memorial installation hosted on-site. For more, visit heidrickaghistorycenter.wordpress.com/.
