Thieves again are targeting mailboxes across Folsom.
Several cases of mailbox theft have been reported around the city in the past week, with the latest taking place on Relvas Court, Flower Drive and Greenlaw Way. In each case, the thieves are breaking open a stand of several connected neighborhood mailboxes.
According to reports, the thieves may be breaking into the boxes searching for tax documents to file false tax returns or steal identities.
“We know how frustrating these mailbox thefts have been, we are frustrated too,” wrote Folsom Police Lt. Jason Browning on the Folsom Watch Facebook page. “We're doing all we can to add patrols, but it's these type of regional epidemic crimes that remind us how big quaint little Folsom has become.”
Browning encouraged residents to report mailbox thefts to the United States Postal Inspection Service, and call Folsom police regarding suspicious activity at 916-355-7231.
The recent string of thefts is not the first of its kind in the area. Police arrested a Folsom man in November for mailbox thefts in Rocklin, Citrus Heights and Folsom.
