Why would anyone want to steal a mounted moose head?

That just might be the question the owners of the Sunnyside Resort in North Lake Tahoe have been asking themselves since Jan. 22. It was on that morning that they discovered the historic moose head that's been mounted at the resort for years had been stolen some time the night before.

Now, the Placer County Sheriff's Office is hoping to track down the mounted monument with the public's help. According to a release from the sheriff's office this week, anyone with information leading to the location of the head could be eligible for up to a $1,000 cash reward from the Placer County Crime Stoppers.

"(This) is an icon for the historic resort and is greatly missed," the sheriff's release said.

Anyone with information on this burglary or the whereabouts of the moose head are urged to contact Detective John Lasagna at the Placer County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division, Tahoe City, at (530) 581-6323. Tipstes can also contact Placer County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-923-8191, or at www.placercrimestoppers.com.
