After a standout career at Stanford University, Folsom Bulldog Jordan Richards was drafted by the Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots in this weekend's NFL draft.

A defensive back, Richards was taken as the 64 pick overall by the Pats. He goes to the NFL as a first-team All-Pac-12 player and a recipient of National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award.

At 22, Richards is considered by many as one of Folsom High's best players ever. He led the team to
the 2010 CIF State Division II championship, and Bulldog coach Troy Taylor has said Richards is “the best high school leader (he’s) ever been around.”

According to a report on
BostonHerald.com, Richards should fit right in with legendary Patriots Coach Bill Belichick.

The Herald said of Richards:

"In the dictionary next to the term “Belichick guy,” just put in a picture of Richards. He’s the perfect model. Richards has all the traits Belichick wants in his players and thinks will work best in his system.

Team captain. Defensive leader. Super smart. Great three-cone drill and short-shuttle times. Comes from a football family (his father played at Tufts in the 1970s). Plays special teams. Loves the game."
