Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?
Macaroni Kid (MK) is a national company with unique editors/publishers in many regions. I publish a free weekly E-newsletter detailing all of the family-friendly events and activities happening in the Folsom/El Dorado Hills area (the content is also available on my website). The newsletters are full of other articles, giveaways, tips, advice and spotlight features, too. I had been a faithful subscriber to MK for a few years and always looked forward to the weekly newsletter in my inbox. Last summer, they sent an email out asking if anyone was interested in publishing in our area, but when I responded they had already found someone. MK went through a few publishers before contacting me, and I feel like I’ve found my niche—scouring the area for kids’ activities is something I do anyway, and I’m happy to be able to share my findings with fellow moms and dads.
How are you involved with both the community and your customer?
I consider El Dorado Hills my hometown and feel lucky to be able to raise my family here. I’m truly invested in seeing this community thrive and enjoy promoting local businesses that fit with the MK brand. I really like being a resource for parents to turn to in order to entertain their kids. I know what it’s like to move to an unfamiliar area and this website can be especially helpful for newbies in town. I also enjoy being PTA president at my kids’ elementary school and feel my two jobs somewhat intertwine—the more people I know, the more people I can reach on my website.
What’s your favorite place to eat out locally?
Skipolini’s Pizza—they have a great play area for kids on their patio and an even better happy hour!
What’s your favorite local event that you go to?
We really enjoy the events at the El Dorado Hills Town Center. The Easter egg hunt, Live on the Boulevard, outdoor movie nights, trick-or-treating, and the holiday tree lighting have been the highlights of our year.
