1. Nothing signifies the start of the season quite like the annual Historic Folsom Christmas Tree Lighting on December 1 from 6-9 p.m. Watch as the tall tree lights up Historic Folsom at 7:30 p.m. This memorable family-friendly event also features a train ride, bounce houses, face painting, visits with Santa, singers, dancers and a surprise guest.

2. The 50th annual Christmas Crafts Fair is going to be bigger and better than ever. On December 2 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., stroll down Sutter Street in Historic Folsom and peruse the wares of 200 vendors, displaying their finest handcrafted goods along with live music and food trucks. This family-friendly event will provide for all your Christmas shopping and more.

3. The Historic Holiday Home Tour in Folsom is a great way to ring in the Christmas spirit. Tour 10 beautifully decorated homes on December 8 and 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and be treated to art, docents in period clothing, and a special appearance by Frosty the Snowman. All proceeds support the Folsom Historical Society and its museums.

4. For a truly magical experience, visit Global Winter Wonderland at Cal Expo any time through January 7. This holiday spectacular features a multicultural celebration of the holidays with illuminated landscapes, entertainment, ice-skating, a carnival with rides, food, photos with Santa and a holiday market. Visit with family and prepare to be enthralled.

5. Dive headfirst into the holidays with the Folsom Christmas Classic 5K/10K Walk/Run and Santa Fun Run beginning at 8 a.m. on December 16 at Vista del Lago High School. Run through Folsom’s beautiful trails and enjoy Christmas carolers, hot chocolate, Santa and vendors. Proceeds benefit Keaton’s Child Cancer Alliance, so grab your friends, family and coworkers and run your way to a happy holiday.

6. You’re bound to find all sorts of great holiday treasures at the El Dorado Hills Holiday Art and Craft Fair at the CSD Pavilion from December 8-9. If you’re looking for unique gifts for friends and family, look no further, for here you will find handmade soaps, candles, jewelry, artwork, holiday décor, food items and more.

7. From December 11-16, Santa, Mrs. Claus and the elves are headed to El Dorado Hills neighborhoods for the annual Santa Run hosted by the El Dorado Hills Firefighters’ Association (visit their website for the routes). The finale will take place at the El Dorado Hills Town Center’s Steven Young Amphitheater on December 16 from 6-7 p.m. where Santa and his posse will collect canned food and new and unwrapped toys. After, enjoy fireworks, cookies and hot chocolate.

8. The Harris Center is set to entertain with a variety of holiday shows. Listen to the season’s finest holiday music at the Holiday Pops concert by the Placer Pops Chorale on December 9-10; next, be whisked on an enchanted journey with Clara and the Nutcracker Prince at The Nutcracker, presented by the Pamela Hayes Classical Ballet Theatre from December 14-17. An Irish Christmas on December 23 will ensure a toe-tapping finish to the season.

9. Attend the Homes for the Holidays Tour and Holiday Boutique and revel in the warmth and wonder of El Dorado Hills homes. Hosted by the Assistance League of Sierra Foothills on December 9-10, this community fund-raiser will take you through five residences displaying everything from traditional to whimsical décor. You can even shop at the Holiday Boutique at the William Brooks Elementary School. Attractions include Santa, a candy bar, wine tasting, hot apple cider and homemade cookies.

10. Little ones will thoroughly enjoy themselves at Fairytale Town’s Winter Wonderland on December 9-10 and 16-17. The storybook park will be decked out in a dazzling display of lights and décor. Enjoy holiday-themed activities, photos with Santa, Victorian carolers and vendors from 1-7 p.m. And don’t miss the “snow fall” at 7 p.m. on the Mother Goose Stage.
