The 10 Spot: Rainy Day Activities

Jan 29, 2018 11:12AM

The skies might be overcast, but that doesn’t mean your days have to be dull. Liven up your spirits with these activities that are guaranteed to leave you singing in the rain. In no particular order…

1) The Moscow Festival Ballet is bringing Swan Lake (February 7) and Giselle (February 8) to the Harris Center. Sit back and enjoy the graceful moves and classical music that will take you far away from the gloomy weather.

2) Dabble in the arts this rainy season by attending a class at Historic Folsom’s The Painted Cork (“Succulent Flower on Canvas Tote or Stretched Canvas” on February 24 at noon), Painted. Studios (“Be Mine, Valentine” on February 10 at 2:30 p.m.), or Color Me Mine (“Ladies’ Night” on Wednesdays from 4-9 p.m.).

3) Play your way through the rain with board games from Sutter Street’s The Game Getaway. Choose from exciting games like Codenames, Agricola, Power Grid, and more. On Mondays at 6 p.m., they close up shop and move to The Fat Rabbit for official “game nights.”

4) There’s always something cooking at the Murer House and Learning Center. Attend the Handmade Fettuccine and Ragú alla Bolognese with Orietta class on February 9 from 1-3 p.m. and enjoy your creations after.

5) When it’s cold outside, you might want to warm up at Steve Wallen Swim School’s state-of-the-art indoor heated pool in El Dorado Hills. They even have year-round swimming lessons, so you don’t have to wait for summer to throw on your swimsuit.

6) Now is as good a time as any to catch a movie at Regal El Dorado Hills Stadium 14 and IMAX or Folsom’s Palladio 16 Cinemas or Century 14. February releases include Fifty Shades Freed, Black Panther, Game Night, Peter Rabbit, and

7) While away the time at the Folsom Public Library or El Dorado Hills Library. Go through their new releases section and read the latest and greatest. If you’re too lazy to step out (we don’t blame you), download e-books and audiobooks from their websites.

8) Did someone say “spa day?” Visit the umpteen spas in the area to get your share of pampering this season. Serenity Spa | Soul Yoga’s Ayurvedic therapies (“herbal lepa” for deep healing; “nasya” for clearing the nasal passages) will help fight the winter germs and leave you well-cared-for.

9) Winters can be especially harsh to those in need. Visit Twin Lakes Food Bank’s website and find ways to help your less fortunate neighbors through donations or volunteer work.

10) If you’re cooped up at home, you might want to get a head start on spring cleaning. Reading Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up or Amanda Sullivan’s Organized Enough: The Anti-Perfectionist’s Guide to Getting—and Staying—Organized (both available at Face in a Book) will give you the inspiration you need.
