If you’re looking for a unique night out, Escape Folsom is the place to be. Sited in a 160-plus-year-old building adjacent to Sutter Street, the establishment includes a bar and restaurant with the original brick and stone walls that create a feeling of yesteryear. The escape room has two scenarios to choose from: search for Peter Yager’s infamous treasure or see if you have what it takes to escape from prison. If you’re simply coming for the food, then you’re in for another adventure. With 12 beers on tap that change weekly and a food menu that includes everything from small bites to seasonal specials, there’s plenty for all palates. I opted for the Pastrami Pretzel Sliders—stuffed with thinly sliced pastrami, gooey Havarti, homemade mustard, and tangy dill pickles—plus a side of fresh-steamed broccolini. From the first bite to the last, my taste buds were on cloud nine. Paired with a pint of Panic IPA from Sacramento’s beloved brewery, Track 7, I was more than content with my picks. Those seeking something sweet would be remiss to skip the homemade mini donuts. Doused in a dusting of cinnamon and powdered sugar with chocolate sauce and strawberry jam, they’re the perfect treat to end an evening of entertainment with.
