Sacramento Event: Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera –– Beethoven Festival Part I: Pastoral Symphony & Fourth Concerto
The Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera (SP&O) has announced plans for its 2018/19 season, comprising of nine concerts performed at the Community Center Theater in downtown Sacramento. The SP&O’s fourth full season highlights its two-week winter festival, featuring the music of Beethoven, a program of all American music, and a semi-staged performance of Verdi’s opera Rigoletto.
The 2018/19 classical season sees the return of audience favorites Andrew Grams, Christoph Campestrini and Michael Christie. Over two weekends in January, Jeffrey Kahane and the Orchestra will re-create Beethoven’s December 1808 marathon concert that offered the premieres of the Fifth Symphony, “Pastoral” Symphony, Fourth Piano Concerto, Choral Fantasy and more.
The SP&O, with renowned conductor David Alan Miller, will present its first all American concert featuring the music of Gershwin and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Steven Stucky.
This season’s Pops series continues its popular Thanksgiving weekend presentation with a tribute to Journey. Conductor Stuart Chafetz will lead the orchestra in two exciting programs including John Williams’ exciting music from the Star Wars series.
